CargoLoc Storage Basket

A problem when carting small items, they invariably migrate to the furthest point away from the tailgate. It is then a real pain in the butt to try and retrieve these items. Larger items are easy to secure with shock cords.

Securing larger items with shock cords

Zeke and Jeanie gave me this CargoLoc Storage Basket, which they had won as a prize in a bowls tournament. This seems to be ideal for carting small items, as it should stop them from moving around in the load-box.

The CargoLoc Storage Basket box

The basket comes with a set of attaching "hooks" with double-sided tape for affixing it to the load-box. It also comes with a set of screws and brackets if the double-sided tape does not hold. My experience has been that double-sided tape does not stick too well to the rubberizing in the load-box, and this proved to be the case here as well. I eventually ended up removing the double-sided tape and stuck the hooks on with Sikaflex sealant, which I often use as an adhesive. I did not want to use the screws as I did not want to drill holes in the body work of the bakkie

The basket in position with some random items in it

I would have liked to have had the basket a bit closer to the tailgate, but the construction of the load-box makes that a bit difficult. With the tailgate closed, it's pretty easy for me to get items in and out, but not so easy for a shorty like Pat!

The system works pretty effectively as we used it to hold our picnic basket and cooler box when we did the Naauwpoort Trail. Everything stayed in position on the trail.

What is really nice about it is that it is easily removed and stored when transporting larger items.
