Muesli
With the price of our favourite Woolies brand granola going through the roof, I decided to try making my own. As granola recipes require baking, I decided this was too much trouble so went for a muesli recipe instead. In formulating this recipe, I looked at many online muesli and granola recipes and from these built my own. The recipe I liked the most was from a local site.
The quantities given here are sufficient for at least six servings (depending, of course, on the size of your serving 😁).
Ingredients
- 1 cup Oats (Jungle Oats is ok)
- 1 Tbsp flax seed (lightly crushed)
- 1 Tbsp Pumpkin seeds
- 1 Tbsp shelled Sunflower seeds
- 2 Tbsp Almonds halved
- 3 Tbsp Sultanas (or raisins)
- 5 Dried Apricots (diced)
- 4 pieces Dried Apple (diced)
- 3 or 4 pitted Dates (diced and separated)
Method
Mix ingredients except flax seed.
Sprinkle crushed flax seed on top of the muesli after placing it in a container.
If the flax seed was crushed too finely, roll the dates in the flax seed to pick up the powder, before mixing the ingredients.

A muesli (with whole flax seed)
Serve with a fruit yoghurt of your choice.
Enjoy!
Other ingredients that can be tried are: chopped pecan nuts, dried peaches and dried bananas.
