Linux Operating System
Linux Stuffies
Introduction
I have worked with Unix based operating systems since the late 1980s. As the windowing system on Linux improved, I became more interested in moving away from MS-based operating systems. The need to have to slow down your machine just to keep the virus threat at bay became more and more irritating to me, so in the early 2000s, I built a PC especially for running a Linux operating system. Eventually, I settled on Ubuntu, because of the ease of using their repositories. When I finally pulled the plug on Windows, I settled on Kubuntu as my Linux-based operating system.
For certain programs that I regularly use, I still need Windows. To facilitate this, I use Virtualbox in which I run Windows XP. It gives me a perverse pleasure to run Windows as a program under Linux 😁
In the pages linked here, I share some of the solutions I have found to problems I have encountered. Solutions to these problems are either not always readily available on the web, or otherwise very dated. As Pat also uses Linux these days, I will also share problems which she encountered as a total novice to the operating system.
